Thinking about buying a home but unsure about signing a buyer agreement? Don’t worry—it’s not as intimidating as it sounds, and it might just be your smartest first move.
Why Yes, You Do Have to Sign This Before We See the House 😉
Oh, the awkward pause.
The sideways glance.
The “Wait—you want me to sign something?”
If you haven’t bought a home in the last decade, the new Buyer Broker Agreement might feel like a surprise. I get it. Ten years ago, well, actually just last year, you could just call the number on the sign, meet someone at the door, and boom—house tour. But just like skinny jeans and Blockbuster, some things have changed.
These days, the State of Ohio says we need to have a written agreement in place before we start showing homes. Why? Because it protects you and me. It makes sure we’re all on the same page, outlines what you can expect from me as your Realtor, and shows that I’m not just your random door-opener—I’m your advocate, strategist, negotiator, and full-blown real estate wingwoman.
And hey, I know you might be checking me out to see if I’m the right fit for you as an agent—but keep in mind, I’m doing the same. This isn’t a marriage proposal, but it is a working relationship. We both deserve to know we’re teaming up with someone who’s a good match—someone who communicates well, shows up, and has your back.
Now, if you’re already working with another Realtor, that’s totally fine—but then they’re the one you should be calling to show you houses. That’s their job, not mine. If they haven’t explained that to you or made it clear how this all works, then respectfully… they might not be doing their job very well. And in that case, maybe I’m the one you should be working with after all.
Final Thoughts
So yes, we’re going to sign the Buyer Agreement. And then we’re going to find you your dream home like the rockstar team we are. Let’s do this.
If you have questions about how the agreement works or why it matters, I’m happy to walk you through it. No pressure, just good info and coffee if you need it.
